Painting the Masters
Some of us looked at a favourite painting and reproduced it in acrylic on canvas. Here is a Monet and Hockney.
Combined Hockney Picture
All the classes contributed to this recreation of Hockneys picture 'Mulholland Drive: The Road to the Studio'. David Hockney has produced a lot of work dividing his images over several canvases. We divided the image into 44 squares and pieced it together. We used felt tip pens, water colour crayons, pastels and oil pastels.
David Hockney Yorkshire Landscapes
We have been looking at David Hockneys Yorkshire landscapes. We loved his colours and bold patterns. We made our own imaginary landscape using layers of paint, starting with water colour and then adding details and patterns with acrylic.
Mosaics
Using our Matisse collages as a starting point everyone designed and made their own mosaic. Some people fixed a mirror in the centre of their mosaic to use in our bedroom or bathroom!
Matisse Collages
We have been inspired by Matisse and his wonderful collages. Some of us were lucky enough to visit the exhibition at the Tate, but we also looked at lots of images in books and catalogues. We had a great session painting lots of pieces of paper in all our favourite colours and then the following week we made our own collages around the theme of the sea.
Observational Drawing
Every term we work on our observational drawing skills. This time we drew a sculpture of 'Nipper' the dog. We used charcoal and white chalk on grey card to depict the 3-demensional quality of the model.
Embroidery
It's always good to have an ongoing project that you can do when you fancy a break from other activities. This term everyone has been doing some embroidery, learning new stitches as we go along.
Maps
We have been looking at different kinds of maps. Maps of places we have visited, maps found in books, maps of holidays we remember and maps of fantasy worlds.
